Laboratory

The Coastal Lab provides laboratory and field support for education, training, and research in Coastal and Hydraulic Engineering. The lab also provides research, design, and testing services for other universities, government agencies, and private industry.

The lab has a number of physical modeling facilities including two wave basins (38 m x 29 m and 15 m x 15 m) and four wave flumes (sizes up to 1.8 m x 46 m). The lab also provides support for sediment analysis, data acquisition, and data analysis.

The lab has conducted many field projects ranging from shoreline surveys to environmental assessments. The lab has a full suite of instruments for conducting field work including a variety of current meters, optical backscatter, tide gages, salinity-temperature-pressure gages, wave gages, GPS watercraft surveying, a full dive locker, and a number of boats.
